The Bottom Line

What We Loved

  • Good location close to Brickell (across the bridge) and downtown Miami.
  • Great engaging staff, Mohammed at the front desk was very personable & provided an overview of the hotel at check-in.
  • Large bathroom with double vanity, soaker tub & shower. The water pressure was great & warmed up quickly.
  • Nice views of the bay (in between apartment complexes).
  • Large gym with plenty of equipment. There’s a gym studio with on-demand fitness classes.
  • In-room amenities included a robe and coffee machine. Requested 2nd robe and two pairs of slippers which were promptly delivered.
  • The hotel has an available text feature via the Marriott Bonvoy app allowing for easy communication.

What We Didn't Like

  • The walls are thin, can hear neighbors' TV, and people walking through the hallway.
  • The in-room fridge is a stocked mini-bar; there’s no place to store personal items.
  • No available tea kettle, so housekeeping brought hot water in carafes each time we wanted to make a cup of tea.
  • The room has visible wear and tear.
  • The bed was moderately comfortable, however, the pillowtop mattress cover kept sliding off & had to be reattached.
  • $25 (plus tax) destination fee
  • The property has a small pool.
  • A key card needs to be in the room slot to activate the lights
  • The mounted TV does not swivel making it hard to see from the seating area
  • The valet/parking situation is a hot mess. The parking space is limited, and can accommodate roughly 10 cars in two lanes. When cars are parked on the right-hand side, traffic moves at a snail's pace when folks are checking in and out.
  • The hotel has ongoing construction with scaffolding which deters from the hotel's outward appearance.

The Verdict

Definitely, an older property, however, this property is nicer and more updated than the JW Marriott Miami.

At check-in, after I told Mohammed I had previously stayed at the attached Beaux-Arts boutique hotel, he said that while the JW was nice, it was not that nice and to taper my expectations by not comparing the two. We used 40k points for a one-night stay when cash rates were $300/night. In the future, at the $300 price point, I would stay at Beaux-Arts, an updated property, with access to the same facilities.
