Bottom Line
What we loved
Early check-in (9 am) provided.
Good location in Brickell, close to Brickell City Centre & restaurants.
Upgraded to lounge access room (21st floor).
Key card activated elevator.
Gym, while small, is open 24 hours. Note you have to walk through the spa to access.
Fast wifi (100+ Mbps).
The front desk staff was nice during check-in.
The room was spacious and had a desk, chair & Illy coffee machine
What we did not like
No in-room fridge for personal items, the fridge in the room is a stocked minibar
One robe in the room (requested a 2nd which was promptly delivered).
The bathroom was small, with one sink & a tub/shower combination that was difficult to get in and out of.
No water view and the room looks out at the nearby hotel pool.
In the room coffee machine did not go to sleep and flashed a light during the night.
The motion-activated light in the bathroom was unable to be turned off or dimmed. It was very bright & along with the flashing Illy night, which was very disruptive to the sleep cycle.
The pillows were soft & did not provide adequate support.
The room was outdated with visible wear & tear.
The bed was not comfortable, high partner motion transfer.
Windows are not soundproofed, could clearly hear music from cars on the street, 21 floors below.
The lounge was not frequently stocked. At noon it was out of coffee cups & guests were bringing cups from their rooms to use in the lounge.
Verdict
Spent 40k points on a one-night stay during our two weeks in Miami. While the staff was attentive and courteous, the dated room made the stay feel more like a Holiday Inn than Marriott's luxurious JW brand. Rooms on the 7th floor are updated and bookable as an "Inspired" Guest Room. For 40k points or less than $250 a night, I would book a stay in the Inspired room instead.
