The Bottom Line

What We Loved

  • Thompson San Antonio Riverwalk offers a house car that we were able to use for a nearby drop-off which was nice.
  • Our 2 Queen room has a very tall ceiling, was close to the elevator. There is a water station (still, sparkling) along with ice near the elevators that can be refilled with complimentary water bottles.
  • There is a nice outdoor space on the 20th floor next to the indoor cafe, which we used as a coworking space.
  • Globalist breakfast ($60 per day) was good. We were able to get a entree and coffee each with the amount. Note the menu is limited.
  • The gym had lots of equipment along with bottled water although the space is rather small.
  • The 76ers NBA team was staying in the hotel & we were able to watch them walk onto the buses and sign autographs.

What We Didn't Like

  • While the hotel looks nice from the street, it's lobby is small. The car port is one lane & can hold maybe 3 SUVs before spilling into the street, a concern during weekend rush.
  • The 2 Queen room at the Thompson San Antonio Riverwalk is small for 2 adults and has only 1 drawer. This hotel would be hard to utilize for a longer stay due to space constraints.
  • We were not offered their welcome amenity beverage nor were provided any special Globalist in-room welcome amenity.
  • The shower water pressure was lower than preferred.
  • There is one small table in between the beds with one power outlet. There is another power outlet by the desk in the room under the TV and that's all we found. Definitely needs more power outlets.
  • In room stocked mini fridge is not useable for personal items, and the temperature was lukewarm at best. There was a note to contact guest services for a cold fridge.
  • The room has maintenance issues: the light attached to the bed had a short & comes on randomly & is protruding from the base. The room deadbolt is off center to the lock and has to be jimmied into place.
  • $25 daily destination fee (& tax) is a scam as there are no inclusions. • The room has no central ceiling light & is dark at night. The room did not have an iron or iron board. There was a steamer offered.

The Verdict

The Thompson San Antonio – Riverwalk delivers an upscale vibe and excellent Globalist value, but it falls short on room functionality.

As an elite benefit, the $60 daily breakfast was high quality, and the 20th-floor terrace served as an excellent, scenic coworking space. The floor hydration stations and house car drop-off added great convenience, and catching the Philadelphia 76ers boarding their team buses in the lobby was an unforgettable bonus.

However, the 2-Queen room is tight for two adults. With only one drawer and a severe lack of outlets, it is impractical for longer stays. We also encountered maintenance issues, including a finicky deadbolt and a bedside light that shorted out randomly.

Furthermore, the $25 daily destination fee promises welcome drinks and daily fresh fruit—neither of which were offered or available. Missing these details, along with the lack of an in-room Globalist welcome amenity, misses the mark for a luxury brand.

The Takeaway: A solid, stylish choice for a quick weekend or a remote-work base, but less than ideal if you require room space, storage, or flawless room maintenance.
