The Bottom Line
What We Loved
- Booked through Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts for $300 per night. The week before check-in, the (Pearl St. King) was going for $450 per night. Upon check-in, we were upgraded to a Grand King.
- While the gym is small (with only 2 treadmills, 2 Pelotons & 1 rower), they do offer complimentary Celsius and Prime, along with two racks with Rogue barbells and weights. With 2 - 3 other folks working out at the same time, it won't be a problem, however anymore would be rather cramped.
- TV has YouTube & Netflix (account sign-in necessary) capabilities, so you can stream your favorite shows.
- Room is spacious with rather classy color palette. The bathroom has a double vanity and a large enclosed shower.
- Security: The hotel always had a bell person at the front door, even when we arrived at 1 am. A keycard is needed to access floors 2 - 14, which include the gym and all the rooms.
- Great location in the financial district, a quieter part of NY, especially during the holiday weekend. The 2 and 3 trains are a block away with quick 15-minute access to Barclays Center or Penn Station.
What We Didn't Like
- Only two elevators which were rather warm during our stay; it did not seem like the fan was working.
- Restaurants are rather expensive for what you get. While breakfast was included in our stay, the $30 per person limit barely covered an entree and beverage.
- Bathoom door is a barn door, which might be a concern for some; note that the lock worked well.
- The in-room fridge was fully stocked upon arrival. We placed the contents in the cabinet during our stay to be able to use it.
- No pool or spa available.
- Limited in-room dining. After a few days you can easily go through entire menu & establish your favorites for the remainder of the stay.
The Verdict
This financial district gem shines with a quiet holiday vibe, top-tier security (including 1 AM front-door staff), and seamless transit links to Barclays or Penn Station. Scoring a sweet Grand King upgrade felt premium, showcasing a classy, spacious layout and an excellent double-vanity bathroom—though the barn door lacks full privacy. While the lifter-friendly gym boasts Rogue barbells and free Celsius, it gets cramped fast. The major downsides? Stuffy, slow elevators, an expensive breakfast credit that misses the mark, and a limited room service menu.
