The Bottom Line

What We Loved

  • Great location in Japantown, near plenty of shops and restaurants as well as close to several bus stops.
  • Large comfortable suite (over 500 sq. ft) with pleasant garden views, two TVs, a work desk, sofa, and a mini fridge.
  • Friendly staff, from check-in to breakfast attendants.
  • 24-hour large gym with plenty of equipment including a punching bag, TRX, Peloton bike, rower, and free weights. The gym also has a beautiful garden.
  • The hotel has a coffee machine in the lobby (long line during breakfast) offering complimentary specialty drinks found in larger hotel lounges.
  • Large bathroom with great water pressure.
  • Plush robes and slippers were provided.
  • The breakfast buffet ($30 per person) included in our room rate was tasty. It included pastries, oatmeal, yogurt parfait, and eggs, along with breakfast meat and carbs (that rotated during our stay).
  • The hotel lobby was inviting with plenty of seating and rows of bookshelves filled with books. It was easy to space out even though the hotel was sold-out.

What We Didn't Like

  • TV streaming (YouTube) randomly signed out and the two remotes were sluggish.
  • Elevators are not keycard operated. (Note our room was on the lobby floor (2nd) and we did not need to use the elevator.)
  • No hotel restaurant: the attached restaurant (Nari) is not affiliated with the hotel.

The Verdict

Over the years after visiting San Fran's Japantown several times, staying at the Hotel Kabuki was added to the bucket list.

We booked a three-night stay in a Loft Suite ($334/ per night + taxes) through our travel agent and had a wonderful stay. From the amazing service to the spacious room to the expansive gym I am in love with this property and would go out of my way to stay here again.
