The Bottom Line
What We Loved
- Good location close to Market Street. Quick 5 minute walk to Powell station with access to Muni.
- Grand Lounge staff was very personable & kept lounge stocked & clean.
- Painless check-in, was able to get into room around 9 am.
- Nice view of the Bay.
- Wifi was easy to use, although it was not password protected. Was able to participate in Zoom calls with no issues.
- TV had streaming functionality, which was quick to set-up.
What We Didn't Like
- AC unit was weird to figure out. Upon arrival we turned it off & opted to open the sliding glass door. After a few hours, we closed the sliding glass door & turned on the AC but the room was not getting any cooler. We turned the unit down to 65 F before the room started to feel comfortable.
- Lounge is open during certain hours, outside of those hours it is locked. Would appreciate key-card access so folks can get coffee/water when needed.
- The in-room desk chair is too low for the desk provided.
- No suite upgrade, although there were suites available for booking.
- $35 daily resort fee (waived for Globalist), inclusions are listed here: https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/california/grand-hyatt-san-francisco/sfous/policies. Spoiler: nothing of value.
- Elevators did not require a key card to access the rooms, a security concern.
The Verdict
We were looking for a place to stay overnight in San Fran for less than $300. Our normal hotels were almost $500 and after some searching, we stumbled upon the Grand Hyatt San Fran which was priced at $275 (sans taxes).
With a location close to Market & Union, close to several train stations, shops and restaurants, it is a good home base for a few days. While the rooms are not too special, the front desk and Grand Lounge staff is very personable which makes it a great pick. While a good stay, I will test out other hotels in the area before returning to the Grand Hyatt.
