The Bottom Line
What We Loved
- Large gym with two stair masters, an adductor machine & Concept rower that is open 24 hours. It also had a separate room that could be used for stretching.
- The Grand lounge is a large space with outdoor seating & is kept clean.
- Great view of the ocean from our ground floor room.
- Parking in included in the resort fee, a novelty in the world of resort fees.
- Suite bathroom has a bidet, a normality in Hawai'i.
- Very spacious suite with ceiling fans that worked well at keeping the room cool when the patio door was opened.
- Front desk staff is cordial, while other staff (bellman, housekeeping) are very friendly.
- Large pools with different sections, including a lazy river. For a pool person, there is plenty of space to spread out. Also, the resort's landscaping is well-maintained, and the pools are part of the resort's aesthetic.
What We Didn't Like
- The hotel is old and shows some wear and tear. Our suite had sections of the wallpaper peeling, and there are tons of wires utilizing the limited outlet space for "modernizing".
- Compared to the lounge at the Hyatt Regency Maui, the Grand Club lounge left much to be desired. The food selection was sparse & employee interaction was minimal.
- We booked our 4-night stay on points and applied a suite upgrade to a standard suite. No upgrade was provided at check-in; per the front desk agent the highest upgrade possible is to a standard suite, which I already booked. And it would be $350 a night for an ocean view suite, which we declined.
- Sprinkler system activates around 7 am and is rather loud.
- AC unit in the bedroom is very loud.
- Large property that takes a bit of time to learn way finding. I got lost several times during the first two days.
- Globalist breakfast is in the lounge with limited options. Would prefer the option is expanded to include room service.
- Cash rates do not match the value of a stay; I would not recommend paying cash. Also, the hotel only has 4 standard suites, and they are booked up 18 months in advance. Unless you can secure a standard suite at off-peak point pricing, would not reccomend.
The Verdict
Originally booked in 2023 for a 2024 stay (at 25k points per night), we rebooked to 2025 stay (at 30k per night). Overall the stay was nice but left much to be desired at this price point. For comparison we stayed in a suite at the Park Hyatt Chicago for 20k per night and had a much more luxurious stay.
