The Bottom Line
What We Loved
- Gabby, the front desk agent who checked us in was very personable & answered all our questions. She was a great introduction to the high level of hospitality at the resort.
- We booked a 2 Queen room for 35k points per night where rates started a around $868++. A few days prior to check-in, I requested a complimentary upgrade to a 2-Queen oceanview, which was granted.
- Our room 631, has breathtaking ocean views and was off to the right hand side and 1 floor above the main lobby. Directly above the pools, the balcony was a great people watching spot.
- Large bathroom with walk-in shower. Bath products smelled nice but we wish the pumps were a tad longer to allow more product out at once.
- Andaz Maui offered $15 F&B credit (or 1k points per night) when you declined housekeeping, which was added to our folio around 5 pm daily.
- Great buffet breakfast with fresh juices, rotating pastries and an egg station. It is strange that speciality coffee was an additional charge.
- We went to the morning yoga and enjoyed it. We appreciated the free laundry and signed up for the 45-minute photo session. Cacao, our photographer, was great and the smallest package was 20 digital photos for $600.
What We Didn't Like
- Beds are a bit softer that we prefer.
- There were robes but no slippers in our room upon check-in. We texted the hotel & they stated they are available upon request and brought them up quickly, which felt a bit off putting for a hotel at this price point.
- We ordered room service after a long travel day and it included a service fee, $8 delivery charge, along with an automatic tip. Our $92 food bill balloon to nearly $150!
- The Ohana Lounge on the first floor is small, dark and was rather warm. Not sure what this space is for, possibly for folks who need a space before check-in or after checking out? I would rather sit in the lobby and take in the view.
- More than twice a day we had to log into the wifi; we wished you could sign in your the duration of the stay & not deal with it.
- $50 daily resort fee (waived for Globalist) doesn't include [valet] parking (https://www.hyatt.com/andaz/oggaw-andaz-maui-at-wailea-resort/policies)
The Verdict
Booked a 3-night stay for 35k points per night in a 2 Queen. Prior to check-in, requested a complimentary upgrade to a 2 Queen oceanview which was priced at $1,033 per night.
The staff were amazing, the buffet breakfast delicious, the infinite pools were well maintained and the ocean views were breathtaking.
This is a great Hyatt redemption hotel (35k) as the standard rooms are spacious & the Globalist amenities are plenty. However, the Andaz Maui still has some refinement in some areas (nickel & dining) to justify it's high nightly rate of near $1k.
